BATMAN: WHITE KNIGHT Comic Will Pull from Tim Burton’s 1989 Movie

The new comic book project, Batman: White Knight from writer/artist Sean Gordon Murphy will offer Batman fans a very different depiction of The Joker.

Murphy took to social media to reveal that one big change to his version of The Joker will be that the character has the real name Jack Napier. That name might sound very familiar, because that is the name of the gangster who eventually became The Joker played by Jack Nicholson in Tim Burton's 1989 Batman movie.

Murphy dropped that revelation on Twitter:

In Burton's 1989 Batman movie, Jack Napier is an intimidating enforcer for mob boss Carl Grissom. When Napier leads a burglary of the Axis Chemicals plant, Grissom sets him up for a fall by calling in the police. During that raid, Napier faces Batman and ends up in a vat of chemicals, which transform him into The Joker.

Batman: White Knight will flip hero and villain roles and take place in Gotham City as it is terrorized by the figure known as The Batman, while Joker is actually a hero, dedicated to protecting the citizens.

As Murphy told Wired

“My main goal was to undo the comic tropes while changing Gotham from a comic book city into a real city—a city dealing with everything from Black Lives Matter to the growing wage gap. [But] rather than write a comic about the wage gap, I gave those ideas to the Joker, who leads a kind of media war against Gotham’s elite by winning people over with his potent observations and rhetoric... We know the Joker is a genius, we know he’s relentless, and we know he can play the crowd, so why not make him a politician?”

This is the first time the name Jack Napier will be used as a depiction of Joker in the comic books (expcet for those based around Burton's '89 movie).

Batman: White Knight #1 will be on shelves Wednesday, October 4th.

Robert Zemeckis’ Live-Action JETSONS Pilot Lands at ABC

In the 1960's they were one of the most iconic families on television, and now more than 50 years into the future, The Jetsons are back. ABC has landed a put pilot commitment for a multi-camera, live-action reboot of the 1960s Hanna-Barbera animated series. It will be executive produced by Back To the Future‘s Robert Zemeckis. A "put pilot" deal includes penalties if the pilot is not aired, in other words, it's pretty much guaranteed that a pilot will be picked up to series.

Deadline Hollywood reports that the new version will be written by Gary Janetti, who has background in both multi-camera and animated comedy series, with experience on NBC’s Will & Grace and Fox’s Family Guy. The multi-camera sitcom is set 100 years in the future and looks at America’s favorite future family through a modern filter.

ABC is a great fit for the project because of its already well-established family comedy brand that includes Modern Family, Black-ish, The Goldbergs, and Fresh Off The Boat. The original Jetsons series also aired on ABC even though it only lasted less than a season in primetime. It was revived in 1985 for another two-season run in syndication.

Trailer For The PLANET OF THE APES: LAST FRONTIER Video Game is Set Between The DAWN and WAR Films

There a new Planet of the Apes video game that was recently announced called Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier and today we have the first trailer for you to check out. It comes from a creative partnership between Andy Serkis’ The Imaginarium Studios and FoxNext Games. The story for the game is said to be set between the events of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes. It looks like a pretty solid game and here are the details:

Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier is a narrative adventure game of conquest, betrayal and survival with multiple endings. When the fates of a tribe of apes and a band of human survivors intertwine, two worlds collide as their precarious existence hangs in the balance. The game plunges the player into a rich, cinematic experience where every decision impacts the fragile balance between peace and war.
Players will be given the opportunity to play both sides of the growing conflict, gaining a deep understanding of the motivations, hopes and fears of humans and apes alike. The destinies of each species rests entirely on the player as the game pushes towards a tense, fragile peace, or a final bloody battle.
By combining The Imaginarium’s world-renowned expertise in performance capture and story-telling, Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier will deliver unprecedented levels of immersion and empathy to choice-based-adventure on console and PC when it debuts later this fall.

Andy Serkis had this to say in a statement:

"We are committed to exploring and expanding next-generation storytelling, and Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier represents an exciting marriage of technology and creativity, all set in a rich universe of which I am very proud."

I'm such a huge fan of these recent Planet of the Apes films. They are just so damn good and the stories they tell are so strong. I hope that they can bring that level of greatness to Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier. Check out the trailer!

Stan Lee Wants SILVER SURFER Gets His Own Movie More Than Any Other Character

There are a ton of characters in the Marvel universe. A lot of the more popular characters currently have their own films and TV series, but that that doesn't mean there isn't room for a few more. Marvel Studios, Fox, and Sony are all mostly playing with the same characters that they've been playing with for years. It'd be nice to see some other heroes and villains from Marvel's lineup get the spotlight.

Stan Lee knows who he would like to see make his way to the big screen! During an interview with SYFY Wire, he revealed that he would like to see Silver Surfer get his own movie more than any character. He explains:

“He’s the one I want to see more. He’s the most philosophical of all the characters I’ve ever worked on. And I have an idea for my cameo in that one!”

I'm sure he does have an idea for a cameo! Yes, Lee is aware of Silver Surfer’s appearance in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, but he was more of a supporting character. Lee just hopes Norrin Radd gets another shot with his own movie.

I'd personally love to see that! Silver Surfer is such a rad character and I think a movie that revolves around him could be so freakin' epic. I'd actually love to see James Gunn play with the character, but that won't happen. Fox owns the Surfer, and as of right now there are no plans to make a movie with him, which is a shame. Fox is currently developing a Doctor Doom film with Noah Hawley. If that can happen, there's hope for a Silver Surfer movie!

There are so many stories that they could tell but two off the top of my head that would be cool to see adapted is Silver Surfer #1: The Origin of the Silver Surfer and Silver Surfer: Parable.

Here's a description of The Origin of the Silver Surfer:

The Silver Surfer is now trapped on Earth after rebelling against Galactus. He tries to help the human race, but they all fear him and attack him. He recalls his former life as Norrin Radd. It seems no matter what he will be discontent with his surroundings.
He travels to an ancient, abandoned city in the Himalayas. He is again attacked, this time by a group of Yeti. He now recalls once helping the Hulk, and how he was attacked for his kindness. He also remembers being betrayed by Doctor Doom and how he has difficulty trusting humans because of this incident.
As Norrin Radd, he dreamed of great things. He got his chance when a spaceship approached the planet. Scientists helped him to build a spacecraft. He flew to meet the invader, to find himself face to face with Galactus, the devourer of worlds. He pleads with Galactus to spare Zenn-La and offered himself as herald. Galactus accepts and Norrin is transformed into the Silver Surfer.
He says his good-byes to Shalla Bal and heads off into the unknown to find planets for Galactus to consume. Eventually this leads him to Earth, where he betrays Galactus to spare the planet. As punishment, he is trapped on Earth forever, never to soar the Universe again.

Here's a description of Parable

Galactus has converted humanity into his followers, and he's leading them to their doom! The planet-devouring demigod's only challenger is the hero he himself trapped on Earth: the Silver Surfer. It's a war for Earth's worship, but how much will be left when it's over? Plus: The Surfer must save his world and ours from the planet-sized peril posed by the Enslavers! With guest appearances by the Hulk, Spider-Man, Wolverine and more!

Are there any Silver Surfer story arcs that you would like to see made into a film? I wonder what stories Lee would like to see get adapted.

The Original Ending To Steven Spielberg’s E.T. Involved a Game of DUNGEONS & DRAGONS

Did you know that the ending we saw in Steven Spielberg's E.T. the Extra Terrestrial wasn't the original ending of the movie? There was another ending that was shot that ended up on the cutting room floor.

I remember hearing something about this years ago, but thanks to an interview with Robert MacNaughton, who played Elliot's brother Michael, we have some new details on this scene. E.T. is turning 35 freakin' years old this year! Seeing this film is the earliest memory I have of going to the movies and it so cool and fun to learn new things about it all these years later.

While talking to Yahoo Movies about the film, MacNaughton explained that the original ending involved a game of Dungeons & Dragons:

"The last scene in the movie wasn't supposed to be the scene that ends up in the movie. The last scene was going to be all of us playing Dungeons and Dragons again, except this time, Elliott's the dungeon master. Because he was the one that found ET, he sort of got in with the group. And so that was supposed to be the final scene, it was in the script and everything, and then they would pan up to the roof and you'd see the communicator and it's still working --- in other words, Elliott is still in touch with E.T.. But after they did the score, the music, and they saw what they had with the spaceship taking off and everything [laughs] --- how can you follow that? I mean, it was a wise choice."

I actually found the deleted ending on YouTube which you can watch below. After watching it, it makes complete sense as to why the scene was cut. The ending they used was just so epic and so emotional that cutting to a scene like this wouldn't really work. It would just take away from that emotional high.

In case you didn't know, Dungeons & Dragons was actually an integral part of the audition process. MacNaughton says that he played D&D at Harrison Ford's house while auditioning for the film. I'd love to play D&D at Harrison Ford's house!

Here's a clip of the original ending. I dare you not to cry while watching it!

Amazon is Moving Forward With Their GALAXY QUEST Series and They’ve Hired a New Writer

Amazon Studios is once again moving forward with their Galaxy Quest TV series! This is great news because I've been really looking forward to seeing it since it was announced a couple years ago.

The streaming service has hired writer-actor-comedian Paul Scheer (The League) to write the script for the series, which is freakin' great! Scheer is a funny guy and I love his work on The League. Unfortunately, he will be replacing Robert Gordon, who was the writer of the original film.

The Amazon series is described as "a new take on the cult movie that starred Tim Allen, the late Alan Rickman as well as Sigourney Weaver." There's no word on if any of the original stars will return. Some of the other cast members included Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell, Daryl Mitchell and Enrico Colantoni.

The classic 1999 film followed a group of washed-up TV actors who starred in a sci-fi show who actually get caught up in a real intergalactic adventure to save an alien race. It gives them the opportunity to step up and become heroes. It's such an amazingly funny movie!

I really hope they can capture the heart and comedy of the original movie for this new series. The reason the whole series fell apart in the first place was because of Alan Rickman's passing last year. In 2016 Rockwell said:

"We were ready to sign up, and [then] Alan Rickman passed away and Tim Allen wasn’t available — he ha[d] [Last Man Standing] — and everybody’s schedule was all weird. It was going to shoot, like, right now. And how do you fill that void of Alan Rickman? That’s a hard void to fill."

It really is, and if they still plan on bringing back the original cast members, it will be interesting to see how they handle Rickman's absence. It seems like they could definitely get Tim Allen back if they wanted because his Last Man Standing show has since been canceled.

Regardless of how this series comes together, I'm still excited about it.

Obi-Wan Kenobi Movie in the Works at Lucasfilm; Stephen Daldry in Talks to Direct!

It looks like Obi-Wan is finally be getting his very own movie and writer/director Stephen Daldry is in early talks to direct the Star Wars standalone movie.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the Oscar-nominated director behind Billy Elliot and The Hours is in the earliest of stages of talks and that the project still has no script. If the deal goes down Daldry would oversee the development of the film with Lucasfilm.

I know what EVERYONE is thinking, but sadly, it's not known at this stage if Ewan McGregor will reprise his role as the Jedi master.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone is one of many projects being developed by Lucasfilm and Disney that fall outside the Skywalker saga. A Han Solo movie is now in production under new director Ron Howard and Lucasfilm is also considering movies featuring Yoda and Bob Fett.

In the original Star Wars trilogy, Alec Guinness played Kenobi, earning him an Oscar nomination to boot. Then McGregor took on the role in George Lucas' prequel trilogy. McGregor has gone on record several times saying he would be open to playing the character again. Sources tell THR that since there is no script, no actor is attached.

Daldry made his feature debut with Billy Elliot, which earned him his first directing Oscar nomination. He followed that up with The Hours and The Reader, which also grabbed him directing nominations.

At long last we have some movement on an Obi-Wan movie! I am personally stoked that they are considering such a brilliant filmmaker to helm the project, what do you guys think?

Ben Affleck and Casey Affleck’s Reps Clear Up All This Batman Confusion

Ben Affleck seemed to make it very clear at Comic-Con this year that he was thrilled and excited to be playing Batman for Warner Bros. It also seemed like he was very much looking forward to working with director Matt Reeves on The Batman. Then his brother Casey Affleck threw fans for a loop when he said:

"But he’s not going to do that movie, I don’t think. Sorry to say."

I saw a lot of fans and media outlets take this as fact, but it's not. The reps of both actors have made statements clearing up any confusion that this has caused, and Ben Affleck will continue to play the dark Knight.

Obvoiusly the actors don't want to deal with the backlash of this comment, so Casey's rep told Buzzfeed:

“He was having fun with the folks at the Red Sox game — where he threw out the first pitch in support of the Jimmy Fund — and not speaking from a place of firsthand knowledge.”

Then Ben's rep came out and said that nothing has changed, and that "he'll continue to be Batman as long as the studio will have him."

So there you go. Ben is going to be playing Batman for as long as the studio wants him in the role. So... if Reeves ends up making his Batman trilogy, it's a safe bet that Ben will be there to carry the franchise forward!

Watch The Rooster Teeth Staff Eat McDonald’s Szechuan Sauce

The team at Rooster Teeth got a hold of McDonald's much hyped Szechuan sauce, and apparently, it's not all that bad! Granted, their reactions (which start around the 3 minute mark) are nowhere near what one would expect with the money people dropped to own some, but it also doesn't sound like it's entirely disappointing. Check out the video below.
