Last week, we shared the news that Cryptozoic had released yet another Rick and Morty game based on the episode "Anatomy Park." The trailer for the game looked entertaining enough, and while it's no world beater or game changer in the genre of tile games, there are some reasons for fans to get in on the action...read more on GameTyrant
A fun new piece of promo art for Avengers: Infinity War has been released by artist Steve Cas. It features a few of the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy characters gathered together. Those characters include Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Captain America (Chris Evans) side by side again. It also includes Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), adolescent Groot (Vin Diesel), Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), and Spider-Man (Tom Holland) sporting his new suit.
It's so cool to see these characters gathered together, and it's going to be even more awesome to see them in action fighting alongside each other in the movie!
As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment - the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain.
Avengers: Infinity War is set to be released on May 4, 2018.
Following the premiere of Marvel's The Defenders, Netflix has released the teaser trailer for The Punisher. This gives us an intense first look at the highly-anticipated series, which sees Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle take his frustrations out on a concrete floor with a sledge hammer. The trailer also features brief clips giving us a glimpse into Castle's past involving his family and his time in the military. One this that the trailer makes clear is that "he's coming to collect."
I love Bernthal's version of The Punisher and I can't wait to see this series that will put the focus on him and tell his story.
Bernthal is joined by Ben Barnes as Billy Russo a.k.a. Jigsaw, who is Castle’s best friend from his days in the Special Forces. He runs a successful private military corporation called “Anvil”. The series also stars Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Micro, a former NSA analyst whose secrets may be of great value to Frank Castle and everyone around them; and Amber Rose Revah as Dinah Madani, a highly-trained sophisticated Homeland Security agent who is vexed by the Punisher.
Also in the cast are Daniel Webber as Lewis Walcott, a young veteran who has had a difficult time re-assimilating into Civilian Society; Jason R. Moore as Curtis Hoyle, a friend of Frank Castle’s and one of the few people who knows he is alive; Paul Schulze as Rawlins, a high-ranking member of the CIA whose operations in Afghanistan intersect with Frank Castle; Jaime Ray Newman plays Sarah Lieberman, Micro’s wife whose marriage has made her life far more complicated; and Michael Nathanson as Sam Stein, a Homeland agent who is challenged by his partnership with Dinah (Amber RoseRevah).
The Punisher is set to premiere sometime later this year in 2017.
I don't know about you, but I'm a fan of Aaron Sorkin's work. The guy is just one hell of a talented writer and now he's making his directorial debut with the film Molly's Game. If you like the stuff Sorkin has done in the past, I think you'll really like what he's got going here.
The movie is based on a true story that is set in the world of high stakes poker. It also has an awesome cast that includes Jessica Chastain, Idris Elba, Chris O'Dowd, Kevin Costner, Michael Cera, and more. The movie looks so good! Here's the synopsis:
MOLLY’S GAME is based on the true story of Molly Bloom, an Olympic-class skier who ran the world's most exclusive high-stakes poker game for a decade before being arrested in the middle of the night by 17 FBI agents wielding automatic weapons. Her players included Hollywood royalty, sports stars, business titans and finally, unbeknownst to her, the Russian mob. Her only ally was her criminal defense lawyer Charlie Jaffey, who learned that there was much more to Molly than the tabloids led us to believe.
The movie is set to be released on November 22nd. Enjoy the trailer!
There's an epic sounding new film going back into development called The Virginian, which is a story that will tell the origin of George Washington. I know you all know who George Washington is and his place in history and this film will tell the story of the early life that led him to become the great man that he became.
The movie will now be written and directed by Jason Hall. Hall wrote the script for Clint Eastwood's American Sniper and he made his directorial debut with the film Thank You For Your Service, the trailer for which you can watch here.
According to Deadline, the ambition is "to tell a story that is Last of the Mohicans meets There Will Be Blood. Here, Washington is a rough man driven by extreme ambition in a violent frontier, and the film will show how one man’s battle to conquer himself enabled him to liberate a nation."
When the project was first announced a couple years ago, the film was said to follow a "down-and-out, young George Washington — desperate to join the British Army — accepts a dangerous mission to conquer a French fort and save the American colonies."
This sounds like it will be a seriously awesome movie! I don't really know much about the early life of Washington prior to his involvement in the Revolutionary War. I'm intrigued now, and I think I'll be doing some research.
I'm sure the film will be inspired by certain aspects of Washington's life, but you know how Hollywood likes to embellish the truth and add certain things to make the story more interesting for audiences. I'm just looking forward to seeing how this turns out!
Tim Burton's live-action Dumbo movie has added new cast member Alan Arkin. The cast in Disney’s live-action adaptation of Dumbo already includes Colin Farrell, Eva Green, Michael Keaton, and Danny DeVito. Nico Parker and Finley Hobbins will also appear in their first film roles.
The original story followed an baby circus elephant who strives to achieve his full potential.
In this reimagining, the film follows Holt Farrier, a former circus star who finds his life turned upside down when he returns from the war. Circus owner Max Medici enlists Holt to care for a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughingstock in an already struggling circus. But when Holt’s children discover that Dumbo can fly, persuasive entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere and an aerial artist named Colette Marchant swoop in to make the peculiar pachyderm a star.
Arkin will take on the role of J Griffin Remington, who is described as a Wall Street tycoon.
The studio’s emphasis on live-action reboots follows the success of Cinderella, The Jungle Book, and most recently, Beauty and the Beast. Disney is currently working on more remakes, inclucing The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Mulan, and other animated classics in the works as well.
Dumbo is currently in production in London from a script written by Ehren Kruger, and it's set to bow on March 29, 2019.
Last year at Gen Con I happened upon a modest booth filled with a young team of people looking to get people to play test their game. Unlike most games at Gen Con their game was nearly devoid of color and to top it all off, used a cloth as a game board. Still, the artwork was interesting and the hook of one of the workers talking about the goal of creating a cult to prepare for the apocalypse had me hooked and I sat down to play Eschaton...read more on GameTyrant
The BBC is producing a TV series adaptation of Alfred Hitchcock's classic 1963 film The Birds. The Birds is such a great movie and one of Hitchcock's best. The story centers around a wealthy San Francisco socialite who visits a small town in California where, for some reason, birds have started terrorizing the residents.
It's not hard to imagine this story being turned into a TV series. If it can be done with Psycho, with A&E's Bates Motel, it can be done with The Birds. The BBC even hired Harry Potter producer David Heyman to develop it for them, which means we will get a quality series. Of course, The BBC puts out a lot of quality series.
According to Digital Spy, The series will be set in rural Cornwall, "where a farmhand and his community is being terrorized by flocks of birds and seagulls shortly after the end of the Second World War."
I actually really like this new setting for the story and I think it will bring some interesting elements to the story.
The Birds series will be written by Irish playwright and writer Conor McPherson. I'm curious to see how this comes together and how this story plays out in the new setting. What do you think about The BBC and David Heyman developing a series based on this classic movie?
I've noticed that a lot of fan of Death Note don't like what they are seeing in director Adam Wingard's live-action film adaptation for Netflix. I personally think it looks like it could be great! If you are in doubt about the movie, the original creators of Death Note have seen the movie, and they have nothing but great things to say about it. They loved it! Maybe the can talk you into giving the movie a shot.
Original writer Tsugumi Ohba had this to say about it:
"Thanks to the beautiful imagery and the thrilling direction by Adam Wingard, the movie is magnificent A-level thriller masterpiece. The characters are all faithful to satisfying their desires. I've always wanted to write a Death Note like this, as well. Through Netflix, it will reach a global audience, so I hope that the people around the world who didn't know about Death Note will get a chance to discover and enjoy it."
Then Death Note illustrator Takeshi Obata offers the following statement:
"It exceeded my expectations. There was high level of quality, sophistication, and attention to every detail. This is what a Hollywood Death Note movie should be. Personally, I was engrossed with the ending! In a good way, it both followed and diverged from the original work so the film can be enjoyed, of course by not only the fans, but also by a much larger and wider audience."
That's quite a boost of positivity! The fact that these guys are gushing about the movie should get fans excited. It's got the endorsement of the creators. If not this doesn't get fans excited, I don't know what to say! I'm already sold, though.
I also included a new clip from the film in which we see L coming face to face with Light. Check it out!
The movie stars Willem Dafoe asRyuk, Nat Wolff as Light, Margaret Qualley, Lakeith Stanfield, Paul Nakauchi, and Shea Whigham. Here's the synopsis:
Based on the famous Japanese manga written by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, Death Note follows a high school student who comes across a supernatural notebook, realizing it holds within it a great power; if the owner inscribes someone’s name into it while picturing their face, he or she will die. Intoxicated with his new godlike abilities, the young man begins to kill those he deems unworthy of life.
Death Note will premiere on Netflix on August 25th.
The sequel to the highly anticipated Broken Lizard comedy Super Troopers now has a release date, and like most stoner-centric celebrations, it will fall on 4/20 2018 (April 20, 2018).
Broken Lizard founding member Steve Lemme recently sat down with Seven Days and revealed the release date for Super Troopers 2. The sequel finished shooting last month after a historic crowdfunding campaign raised $4.4 million.
“There is [a release date], but I can’t tell you what it is. Here’s what I can tell you: It’s springtime and there’s a very obvious date, which happens to fall on a Friday this year. It’s going to be our widest release. And it’s testing better than any movie we’ve tested. It came out fantastic.”
Lemme did not technically say April 20th, but 4/20 happens to fall on a Friday next year and is clearly the “obvious date” for which a sequel to a beloved stoner cult classic would open.
For those of you who don't understand the whole "meow" thing in the title...
